What the test covers

The FAA publishes the weighting of each knowledge area on the UAG test. Operations is the biggest slice, but it is also the most intuitive. Airspace and regulations are where memorization pays off.

The practice exam draws questions in these same proportions: 12 regulations, 12 airspace, 8 weather, 5 loading and performance, 23 operations.

What has changed lately

  • Remote ID has been required on registered aircraft since September 2023, with enforcement since March 2024.
  • Night operations and operations over people have been allowed without a waiver since April 2021 when the aircraft and pilot meet the new rules. The old recurrent test became free online training at the same time.
  • Part 108, the proposed rule for routine beyond visual line of sight flying, reached final White House review in July 2026. It is a separate framework for automated operations. Part 107 itself is unchanged.
